Fusion, the multiplatform media company serving millennials, will partner with WITW Texas with a live stream and exclusive content
As the world’s attention is focused on the Ebola outbreak raging throughout West Africa – and the three cases recently diagnosed in Dallas – the need for action on a massive scale is clear. In a new panel just added to the Women in the World Texas forum set for Oct. 22 in San Antonio, Sarah Crowe, chief of crisis communications at UNICEF in New York, will address the situation in Africa and the urgent need for international aid to combat the spread of the disease.
On Tuesday, the World Health Organization projected that by December there could be 10,000 new cases per week in West Africa. As of Tuesday, the total number of confirmed and suspected Ebola cases has reached 8,914 – with 4,447 deaths, according to WHO. Crowe recently returned from a visit to Liberia to assess the situation on the ground and will share her knowledge and experience.
Also added to the Women in the World Texas lineup is Robi Damelin, an international spokesperson for and member of The Parents Circle — Families Forum. Damelin, who immigrated to Israel in 1967, lost her son David in March 2002 when he was killed by a Palestinian sniper during his army reserve service. She joined The Parents Circle — Families Forum, which is made up of more than 600 Israeli and Palestinian families who have all lost a relative in the ongoing violence and are working toward reconciliation. Damelin is featured in the award-winning documentary, One Day After Peace.
Two performers complete the expanded WITW Texas lineup: Omnia Hegazy, a singer, songwriter and activist, and Natalia Perlaza, a percussionist. Hegazy, the daughter of an Egyptian-Muslim father and an Italian-Catholic mother, grew up in New York City. She’ll perform in San Antonio along with Perlaza, a native of Colombia.
